About National City

Incorporated in 1887, National City is the second-oldest city in San Diego County, which is evident through its vibrant community. The city is known for its cultural events, waterfront marina, diverse food, low-rider car scene, and shopping! National City is near it all: the San Diego Bay, the downtown area, the US-Mexico border, the international airport, and many of San Diego’s best attractions. With the San Diego Trolley and the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) service, National City easily connects to many other nearby cities like La Mesa, El Cajon, and Downtown.

National City is great for those who love to shop because of its many shopping centers; from the popular Westfield Plaza Bonita shopping mall to the many shopping centers throughout the city, you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Are you a foodie? In National City you will find Mexican, Japanese, and Filipino restaurants, or the best burger offerings. With over 200 restaurants to choose from — everything from affordable fast food, to interesting ethnic restaurants, to fine dining — there is something to satisfy every craving.

National City has a robust commercial life with businesses of all types and sizes, from small family-owned businesses to the large shipbuilding and repair industries. You’ll also find that the city has many parks to enjoy on sunny San Diego days — some even with a water view!
